Anna’s own words: “Having in my youth wanted to be an actress I often found myself out of work. The Chelsea Pottery in London welcomed theatre people in between jobs, so I went along to learn, and I learnt a great deal from the potters working on the commercial side of the pottery. Later I became a paid decorator for them, going to night classes at the Chelsea School of Art at the same time. I often used the designs on Greek money I’d seen in the British Museum and drew them on plates.Years later, when installed in Languedoc-Roussillon, France, I discovered the minute silver coins of this area, which the Gaulois in the first century BC had copied from the Greek money. I copied, in my fashion, their copies.”
